About the Author
Linda Kinslow is the author of Grandfather’s Legacy, a heartfelt novel inspired by her Texas roots, her career in science, and her lifelong devotion to faith and family.
Where Did Linda’s Story Begin?
Linda grew up in Oglesby, a small farming town in Central Texas surrounded by the Blackland Prairies. Life in a close-knit rural community gave her a strong sense of belonging and taught her the importance of resilience and tradition. Family gatherings, community ties, and the steady rhythm of farm life shaped her earliest memories and planted the seeds of storytelling.
From a young age, Linda paid attention to the way stories were told around the table and at local events. These stories carried values, lessons, and memories from one generation to the next. That early exposure gave her an understanding that stories are more than entertainment. They are a way of keeping families connected and preserving history.
Her Professional Journey
Linda pursued higher education in the sciences and began her career as a geophysicist. She worked in Houston and later in Trinidad, where her role demanded persistence, attention to detail, and the ability to face complex challenges. These qualities became part of her character and later influenced her writing.
Her career eventually led her back to Central Texas, where she joined Baylor University as a professor of physics. Teaching allowed her to share her knowledge while also encouraging students to remain curious and disciplined. Both her years in scientific exploration and in academia helped her appreciate patience, precision, and perseverance. These same traits now guide her work as an author.
Her Everyday Life
In retirement, Linda enjoys a quieter rhythm that reflects the values she has always held close. She spends time gardening, taking long walks outdoors, and caring for her golden retriever, Sierra. Her days are also filled with family, which has always been central to her life.
Faith continues to shape her perspective, offering guidance and inspiration in every season. Although her professional career is behind her, Linda has discovered a new way to share her voice and experiences. Writing has become her way of connecting with others on a deeper level.
Inspiration Behind Grandfather’s Legacy
Linda’s decision to write came from a desire to honor the values that have guided her throughout life. Grandfather’s Legacy is a story about love, loss, and the enduring ties of family. The novel reflects her belief that true inheritance is not measured in property or wealth but in the lessons and values passed from one generation to the next.
Drawing from her own experiences, as well as the stories of those around her, Linda created a narrative that blends memory and imagination. Through Paula Phillips and her children, readers are invited to explore the challenges of grief, the courage it takes to start again, and the healing that comes from returning to one’s roots.
Her hope is that readers will see parts of their own families in the story and find comfort in its message. For Linda, Grandfather’s Legacy is more than a novel. It is a reflection of the belief that family ties are lasting and that love, when carried forward, is the strongest legacy of all.
